Creative Characters – Llyrann, the Caller of the Hunt

Welcome back to Creative Characters. This time around, our group will focus on a number of crossblooded denizens of the outlying Evervale region, somewhat unique in the acceptance and integration of their community. In this case, all of our characters will be interesting hybrid races, presenting fun new options for dynamic characters.

For the sake of reference, and consistency, all characters here are created with the Elite stat array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) and all hit points are rolled as averages. They are also written so that they can be used as either NPCs or PCs. This week we introduce you to Llyrann, the Caller of the Hunt

TACTICS

During Combat Llyrann engages in combat with reckless abandon, singing all the while. Making use of both her inspired rage and buffing spells, she uses swiftness and agility to best her foes, avoiding her enemies attacks rather than trade blows.

If wounded, she escapes her opponent, only to track them while they are wounded, wearing them down and choosing when to continue the battle to her advantage.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Born Performer

A piper gains a +2 bonus to any two Perform checks of the player’s choice.

Call of the Wild (Su)

Llyrann’s raging song can transform herself and her allies within 60 feet into animalistic shapes, as per beast shape I (Small animals only) at her caster level. The same transformation applies to all targets. By spending 1 round of raging song per target, she can affect any number of allies within 60 feet for 1 hour. When in animal form, she is treated as able to speak normally for the purpose of using raging song, but not for using other abilities that require speech (such as spellcasting). She must continue to perform the song for the remainder of the hour; otherwise, its effects end, but only 1 round of raging song per target is expended for that hour.

Inspire Scent (Ex)

Llyrann possesses the scent rage power. Her song of the senses and inspired rage raging songs both grant affected allies this rage power.

Mystic Voice (Su)

Piper spellcasters have a natural magic in their voice and must use it as an element of all their spellcasting. The additional magic imbued in their voice means a spellcasting piper never has to worry about somatic components, and ignores the somatic component of any spell. However, pipers cannot cast spells without singing out verbal components. Even spells that normally do not have verbal components gain them when cast by a piper and pipers cannot use the Silent Spell feat. Further, a piper cannot cast such spells quietly. It is not possible for a piper to make a Stealth check when casting

Raging Song: Song of the Senses (Su)

Llyrann’s raging song unlocks animalistic senses in her allies. By spending 1 round of raging song, she can affect all allies within 60 feet for 1 hour. The allies gain low-light vision and a +2 competence bonus on Perception and Survival checks. If an ally already has low-light vision, the range doubles. Llyrann must continue to perform the song for the remainder of the hour; otherwise, its effects end, but only 1 round of raging song is expended for that hour.

Soul of Music

Music is part of a piper’s sustenance as surely as food, sleep, and air. A piper must have music. Being prevented from performing or listening to music has the same effects as starvation

Wilderness Magic (Su)

At 5th level and again at 11th level and 17th level, Llyrann adds two spells of any level she can cast from the druid spell list to her class spell list and list of skald spells known.

ABOUT

A blur of movement, a wild primal chanting, beautiful yet unmistakably predatory signals Llyrann’s presence. Born of a dalliance between an elven druid of the Vale’s circle, and a wandering satyr, Llyrann’s fey nature is evident in both her appearance (graced as she is with delicate hooves and curling horns), and in her intrinsic love of music.

Spending equal time with her mother among the druids, and with her father’s roving band, her talents have developed to blend both of her parents’ legacies in a unique and exceptional ability, a natural born herald of the Wild Hunt itself.
