Saturday Potpourri: Storm Thrower (Fighter Archetype)

Storm Thrower (Fighter Archetype)

The storm thrower is the master of thrown weapons. He rains down destruction upon his foes. Crouched behind their splintering shields, his enemies despair beneath his withering hail.

The storm thrower is an archetype of the fighter class.

Signature Weapon (Ex)

At 1st level, a storm thrower must select a type of thrown weapon as his signature weapon. He must be proficient with the weapon and it must be a melee weapon with a range increment. He gains the Weapon Proficiency feat with the weapon. He may benefit from storm thrower class features only when using his signature weapon. He may change his selection of signature weapon any time he advances a level in the storm thrower class.

This ability replaces the bonus feat gained at 1st level.

Powerful Thrower (Ex)

At 2nd level, a storm thrower can use his Strength modifier for both his attack and damage rolls with thrown weapons.

This ability replaces bravery.

Combat Style Feats (Ex)

At 3rd level, a storm thrower gains the ranger’s thrown combat style to pursue. The storm thrower’s expertise manifests in the form of bonus feats at 3rd, 7th and 11th levels. He can choose feats from the thrown combat style, even if he does not have the normal prerequisites.

This ability replaces armor training 1, 2 and 3.

Expert Thrower (Ex)

At 5th level, a storm thrower gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with his signature weapon. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 5th.

This ability replaces weapon training 1 and 2.

Hurling Trickery

At 13th level, as a standard action, a storm thrower can make one attack with his signature weapon at a –4 penalty. If the attack hits, it inflicts damage normally and the target is subject to a disarm or a trip maneuver using the attack roll as the combat maneuver check. The storm thrower must decide which maneuver to attempt before making his attack roll.

This ability replaces weapon training 3.

Savage Onslaught

At 15th level, a storm thrower can as a full-round action make a savage onslaught, pooling all of his attack potential into a single thrown attack made with his signature weapon. When he does, he makes the attack against the target’s touch AC and the attack ignores 1 point of damage reduction for every 2 storm thrower levels (rounded down).

This ability replaces armor training 4.

Master of the Storm

At 17th level, a storm thrower can, as a standard action, change his selection of signature weapon. It must be a thrown weapon with which he is proficient.

This ability replaces weapon training 4.

Weapon Mastery

A storm thrower must choose a thrown weapon for his weapon mastery class feature.

About mmiller

Mike Miller first discovered RPG’s in the days of TSR. The mention of a beholder or mind flayer still twists his guts with nervous dread, though now with a tinge of nostalgia. He had no publishing experience prior to writing for the OGN, but has long enjoyed creating histories and legends for his homebrewed worlds.
